MPs reject Theresa May’s EU withdrawal agreement by 344 votes to 286, a majority of 58, throwing UK’s Brexit plans into more confusion.

Mrs May said the vote would have “grave” implications and the “legal default” was that the UK would leave on 12 April.

That meant there would not be enough time to get legislation through to avoid a no-deal Brexit, she said.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn called for her to resign and call an election.

Responding to the vote, European Council President Donald Tusk tweeted: “In view of the rejection of the Withdrawal Agreement by the House of Commons, I have decided to call a European Council on 10 April.”

The result of the vote means the UK has missed an EU deadline to secure an extension of the Brexit process and leave with a deal on 22 May.

  2. It is now abundantly clear to Leave and Remain voters that Parliament has failed us all. Both main parties have utterly betrayed the electorate, and by their inaction refused to obey the democratic vote to Leave the EU. Therefore, the only legal means we have of responded is to use our next GE vote to smash both main parties to pieces. We simply cannot go on like this, represented by people who have nothing but contempt for what we think. That is not democracy, it is Fascism lite.

  3. Totally out of touch MPs – both parties manifesto s' said they would deliver Brexit —shame on them – – – – – -serious trouble ahead me thinks – – –

  4. MP's vote against their people's willing in Brexit deal. Will you please show me UK people's vote in each Constituency and respective MP's name. Will UK people get job opportunities, etc in any of EU or not.

  5. No deal brexit is exactly what Britons need. Britain can make the CANZUK alliance with Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, or join the TPP to be linked with Japan.
