Welcome to the QuackNews.org/xLevel Java Project web site.

QuackNews.org is the domain hosting the QuackNews java RSS client and the xLevel Java Project is a fancy name for my java applications. Available applications are:

QuackNews , a java RSS reader/aggregator client aimed primarily at PDA's, smart phones, etc rather than desktop systems. Should work with them still though.
JVMail , a command line SMTP mail client (Not being developed anymore).

19/02/2007 - First Release of QuackCM.

So here it is, the first relase of QuackCM. This is version 0.1, and has very limited functionality, but please feel free to download this and see what it's all about.

15/01/2007 - Announcing QuackCM.

QuackCM is my new project that I hope to have ready for initial release in the not distant future. It is a ASP.NET 2 content management website frame work.
The idea of QuackCM is as a teaching project for myself and I'm hoping that it will provide a nice, simple solution for anyone wishing to use ASP.NET 2 to host a simple wedsite. I will put up some more information, project road map, screen shots, code, etc soon.

30/12/2006 - QuackNews on indefinite hold.

As you can see it has been a while since I updated either this web site or the QuackNews source code. This is due to a number of changes in my private and professional life and because of this I have decided to put development of any new versions of QuackNews on indefinite hold. If things change, then I may revive the project, but until then I hope people get some use out of what has been done so far and if people wish to take up the baton and continue development, please do not hesitate and contact me.

22/12/2006 - Sun release GPLed JVM Source.

Here is some good news reported on Slashdot, Sun have released the J2ME virtual machine source code under the GPL. There are a number of different versions available for download under the name PhoneME. There are versions available for Windows and Linux for the x86 chip and (in the case of the CLDC/MIDP version) also the Linux/ARM platform. Hopefully this will help the guys and girls of the OpenZaurus project, as one of the major things I feel is missing from the OPIE feeds is a JVM.

25/08/05 - Starting QuackNews version 0.5.

I'm starting work on version 0.5 of QuackNews. To allow for the maximium testing I will be releasing a binary build when every bug or enhancement is finished. To find get the latest update go to the Development Builds page.
